Traffic police and the prosecutor«s office conducted inspections of Chita»s streets following media publications and uncovered winter road maintenance violations in all city districts, Chita.Ru reported on January 20, citing Yevgeny Sinelnikov, senior assistant prosecutor of the Trans-Baikal Territory.
Sections of roadways have been identified with deficiencies in winter maintenance — including snow cover, winter slipperiness, and ice buildup.
In response, the regional prosecutor«s office has submitted a proposal to the city mayor demanding the elimination of the identified legal violations and has initiated administrative proceedings against the acting chairman of the city utilities committee under Part 1 of Article 12.34 of the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses, »Failure to Comply with Road Safety Requirements.«
The article stipulates a fine for officials of up to 30,000 rubles (approximately $330 at current rates).
The duties of the committee head are currently being performed by Deputy Mayor Andrey Grenishin.
