Former Prince Andrew could be in serious trouble after London police launched a major criminal investigation into allegations that Jeffrey Epstein acted as a channel for leaking British government intelligence. Police confirmed that they have begun an investigation into Lord Peter Mandelson on suspicion of abuse of office. The charge relates to the alleged transfer of confidential government information to Epstein, a convicted sex offender who died in a New York prison in 2019.

Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown provided police with relevant information regarding the Epstein probe.

The investigation has already had serious political consequences. Lord Mandelson resigned from the House of Lords after Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he had “let his country down.” The Cabinet passed its initial assessment of the published US court documents in the Epstein case to the police, and Members of Parliament are preparing a vote to force the release of documents on Mandelson’s vetting when he was recently appointed ambassador to the United States.

A police spokesperson said that after the release of millions of court documents in the Epstein case, the police received a number of reports of alleged abuses, including a referral from the government. She confirmed the start of an investigation into the 72-year-old former minister.

The US Department of Justice released millions of court documents from the Epstein case.

According to sources familiar with the investigation, investigators expect to question several political figures and are assessing whether Epstein’s connections with senior British officials created national security vulnerabilities. “What began as a check of past behavior has turned into something much more serious,” a source said.
Former Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown provided police with what he called “relevant” information regarding the alleged leak of confidential materials during the financial crisis. Brown characterized Mandelson’s actions as “unforgivable and unpatriotic.”
Starmer was equally harsh, stating in Cabinet that Mandelson “let the country down” and calling the alleged sharing of “highly sensitive” information “disgraceful.” Published letters indicate that Mandelson may have shared information about the bankers’ bonus tax in 2009 and about Eurozone aid in 2010. In another exchange, Epstein asked businessman David Stern whether Mandelson’s help was needed in the acquisition of EMI.
Mandelson said that the publication of historic letters plunged him into a “life-altering crisis” and said he was too trusting of a man he now considers a predator.
Meanwhile, sources warn that Prince Andrew may still be questioned if investigators determine that Epstein’s alleged intelligence role intersected with royal or diplomatic activities. According to a source, Andrew’s long-documented association with Epstein means he cannot be pushed to the periphery of the investigation.
