Police Deny Son-in-Law Is Suspect in Guthrie Case

Pima County police stated that no suspects have been identified in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of TV host Savannah Guthrie. This refutes earlier information about the possible involvement of her son-in-law.

Independent journalist Ashleigh Banfield, citing a law enforcement source, reported that Tommaso Cioni, husband of Savannah’s sister Annie, is being considered a possible suspect in the case.

It is known that Annie last saw her mother Nancy on Saturday evening when they had dinner together. It is unclear whether Cioni was present.

The family became concerned on Sunday when 84-year-old Nancy did not attend her usual church service and notified police.

According to Banfield, investigators seized Annie’s car, which has «some connection» to the 50-year-old Cioni. Additionally, all security cameras at Nancy’s home in Tucson, Arizona, were broken.
Earlier, media published video showing a blood streak at the home entrance. Reports indicate that Nancy Guthrie’s blood was found at the scene.
A tabloid newsroom received an alleged extortion note from unknown persons demanding money for the woman’s release. Police and the FBI are verifying its authenticity.
Law enforcement believes Nancy was kidnapped from her home overnight between Saturday and Sunday. The search is urgent because the woman is in poor health and requires daily medication.
Media representatives attempted to contact Cioni for comment but received no response. Police also declined to confirm Banfield’s information.
