Poacher Sentenced for Killing Female Moose
A 41-year-old resident of Afanasyevsky District was found guilty of illegal hunting after shooting a female moose and paying 80,000 rubles (around $800) in damages.

The Afanasyevsky District Prosecutor«s Office in Kirov Region supported the charges in a criminal case against a local resident. The man was convicted under paragraph »a« of Part 1 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for illegal hunting.
The court established that on 23 November 2025, the defendant, without a hunting permit, shot a female moose in a forest near the village of Arkhipyata. The damage from his actions was estimated at 80,000 rubles (around $800).
The accused fully admitted guilt and voluntarily compensated the material damage. The court sentenced him to a fine of 40,000 rubles (around $400).
Additionally, the court granted the claim of the relevant ministry for compensation for environmental damage. The amount of 160,000 rubles (around $1,600) was determined taking into account that the female moose could have produced offspring.
The smoothbore shotgun IZH 3K, which the poacher used, was confiscated to the state.
