The passage to kindergarten No. 83 on Malaya Sadovaya Street in central St. Petersburg became safe after parents complained for more than a week about snowdrifts and ice. The area was cleared on January 27, when the situation received wide publicity.

The administration confirmed the area was cleared after parents« complaints about dangerous snow and ice conditions.

As resident Anastasia told, parents of the children filed complaints on the portal «Our St. Petersburg,» but there was no reaction, and they had to take up shovels themselves.

«We are clearing the consequences. It is impossible to get to kindergarten No. 83 without falling. Children fall regularly. Parents have taken on the role of a janitor,» Anastasia said.

The press service of the administration of the Central District stated that the adjacent territory and the courtyard had been cleared, access to the preschool institution was provided, and snow removal was planned for the near future.

Responsibility for snow and ice removal

The management company is responsible for clearing the courtyard of snow and ice. Its area of responsibility includes:

  • courtyards
  • roofs
  • porches
  • entrances to stairwells
  • sidewalks
  • driveways
  • playgrounds

Holidays are not an excuse for inaction. If the snow layer exceeds five centimeters (2 inches), it must be removed, and ice must be regularly cleared from external areas and vestibules.
