In the first days of the Art World art exhibition at the Nizhny Novgorod Fair, large queues formed. Over the weekend, some could not enter the pavilions for more than an hour. As organizers explained to NN.RU, this situation arose due to the limited capacity of the pavilions.

Art World reopened within the walls of the Nizhny Novgorod Fair last Saturday, 31 January. Traditionally, a large number of people eager to visit the exhibition gathered near the pavilions. On social media, people complained that only one entrance was working for regular guests, while the second was reserved for tour groups and VIP ticket holders.

“Children, disabled, elderly. Everyone mixed together and only one entrance! It’s unthinkable, it’s winter, wind with snow, very cold,” wrote one local resident.

Readers of NN.RU also reported that queues at the exhibition do indeed exist. Some stood outside for about 30-40 minutes for the sake of art, while others, seeing the crush, decided not to waste time and left.

“We stood for about 30 minutes. The queue moves quickly. No crush or queue at the cloakrooms, thanks to regulating the flow of entrants, there is completely no crush inside. Very comfortable. Two hours is enough to see everything,” shared a female resident of Nizhny Novgorod named Lyubov in the comments.

“Like in a famine year for bread. We arrived, looked at the queue, and left,” recounted Dina.

There were many people wanting to get into Art World in previous years as well. The fair’s press service told NN.RU that they took this experience into account and tried to improve the organization.

“Many wait for the opening and rush to be among the first to enter. We have a certain capacity for the pavilions. We took last year’s experience into account, when visitors were cramped and unable to see the exhibits properly. Therefore, this year we are controlling the flow of visitors to maintain guest comfort at the exhibition and comply with safety requirements,” said representatives of the venue.

Most people aim to visit the exhibition specifically on weekends, so queues still form. The situation is further exacerbated by the fact that people start gathering at the entrance already at 10:00 AM, although the doors open only at 11:00.

To make standing outside less cold, on weekends the organizers treat people in the queue to hot tea. They urge people to come to Art World on weekdays if possible, to enjoy the art without the crowds.
