Orenburg Region Governor Yevgeny Solntsev visited several buildings and a dormitory of Orenburg State University (OGU), the Pingvin sports complex, which is affiliated with the region«s main university, and the Rossiya Palace of Culture — one of the city»s popular concert venues. All facilities have long required major repairs.

The Pingvin Sports Complex still features Soviet-era infrastructure and ambiance, underscoring the need for modernization.

For example, at Pingvin, it is necessary to replace the roof and facade, renovate the interior spaces and the entire swimming pool. The same actions are required for the Rossiya Palace of Culture, where there have been no updates since construction. Meanwhile, in the ninth building of OGU, rough finishing work has already begun.

Initial renovation work has already started in the ninth building of Orenburg State University.

«Our schoolchildren, about six thousand of whom graduate each year, should stay to study in their homeland, developing the local economy. I have already raised this issue at the highest level. We will do everything to make OGU the top choice for our graduates» educational institutions,« said the regional governor.

The deteriorated state of the facilities clearly calls for a comprehensive major renovation project.

Earlier, 56.RU reported that in 2026, the underground pedestrian crossing near the Rossiya Palace of Culture and the main building of OGU may be renovated. The information was confirmed to us by First Deputy Head of Orenburg Vyacheslav Obyedkov.

And in the village of Ivanovka in Orenburg District, the Ural House of Culture will be renovated — «an object with a complicated fate,» as Minister of Culture of Orenburg Region Yevgenia Shevchenko put it. It is located on the main village square on Koltsevaya Street, and since 1965, when it was built, almost no repairs have been carried out there.

Moreover, last week, Governor Yevgeny Solntsev, Head of Orenburg Albert Yumadilov, and Minister of Architecture Maria Struchkova visited the abandoned «Gagarin»s letka« (a building connected to Yuri Gagarin). They inspected the facility and heard the verdict of specialists on the condition of the building. The regional head promised to carry out reconstruction there and return the building to students by 2034, when the world will mark the 100th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin»s birth.
