Novosibirsk to open 11 new snow disposal sites due to heavy snowfall

Eleven new snow disposal sites will appear in Novosibirsk. This was announced at an operational meeting in the city hall on January 20.

Mayor Maksim Kudryavtsev noted that winter in Novosibirsk has been record-breakingly snowy.

«According to Roshydromet, the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, a very large amount of snow has fallen, more than in the entire history of observations. In terms of numbers, it was 208% of the norm in November, 128% in December, and 150% in the first ten days of January,» said the city head.

He reported that there are 19 snow removal sites in the city, which are provided for indefinite use to district administrations.

First Deputy Mayor of Novosibirsk Joseph Kodalaev said that all sites are filled from 60 to 90%.

«Several of our sites have exhausted their limit. In connection with this, we have found an additional 11 sites in various districts of the city to use during peak snowfalls, during periods of increased removal volume,» he said. Currently, the new sites are in the process of being formalized.

He added that by January 20, snow had been removed 20% more than during the entire previous winter season.
