Novosibirsk residents struggle with dangerous icy bus stops

Every week, hundreds of posts are published on the NGS.RU Telegram channel (if you«re not subscribed yet, now is the perfect time) about what»s happening in Novosibirsk and the region. We gathered the most interesting ones from the week to show how these seven days went.
Most Commented
A post about how icy conditions at the MZhK stop prevent residents from safely entering or exiting gathered the most comments. Local residents support the call to solve the problem, while others complain about similar situations in other parts of the city.
«I once slipped under a minibus at a stop that looked just like that in the »Shch« area. Good thing I managed to grab onto the handrail,» recalled Tatyana.
«I got off trolleybus No. 5 at the »Theatrical Institute« stop (DK Energia) towards the Airport. My hip and elbow were injured. It»s slippery, the road is dusted with snow, and underneath it«s packed ice,» shared Yelena.
«It»s the same situation on Vybornaya Street. I help grandmothers get on and off the bus if I«m going somewhere myself,» said Anastasia.
«It»s impossible to walk along Moskovskaya Street. The sidewalks haven«t been cleared once this winter from Avtogennaya to Nikitina, you have to crawl,» added Olga.
«And what about getting on and off trams?! First you jump into the car from a height of 50–60 cm (20–24 inches), then you climb out at the same height. Quite an ordeal, especially for the elderly and people with limited mobility,» specified Irina.
«Judging by the comments, this is a city of survival. We»re hanging in there,« noted Anastasia.
«This is now the case at all stops across the city. It»s dangerous, especially when children go to and from school over slippery pedestrian crossings. If only they«d remove the ice near stops and crossings,» wrote Yulia.
«We»re sliding back into primitive communal society. Snow isn«t cleared, transport doesn»t run. We«ve come to this,» complained Yelena.
«This winter is a total nightmare: the roads have been cleared, but the piles at stops remain, and they»ve been compacted by frost. You can«t get on or off the bus… and it»s like that all over the city,« remarked Anna.
Most Discussed
NGS readers also actively discussed what newborns were named in 2025. The card compiled a list of unusual female and male names that parents chose for their children.
«My husband and I wrote down 20 male and 20 female names on a piece of paper, crossing out those that didn»t suit the patronymic or were already used by our relatives. The baby was sitting, the doctor couldn«t determine the sex, but said it was most likely a boy. I went to the maternity hospital for a Dmitry, but came back with a Ksyusha,» shared Svetlana.
«At my birth, they wanted to name me Yunna, but I ended up Oksana. My daughter was supposed to be Ivan before birth (we thought it would be a boy), then for three days she was Alexandra, but we chose Margarita,» said Oksana.
«We named our son Yura, and everyone says »we haven«t heard that name in so long,»« a reader was surprised.
«Nowadays children are named on a whim… In the past, they were named after elders in the family. I was named Anisya after two grandmothers, and my brother after a warrior grandfather,» noted Anisya.
«Do parents even think about how a child will live with a strange little name?» wondered Lilia.
«I never liked my name—Svetlana, I wanted to change it many times. But I couldn»t find one that felt right, and then I realized I«ve lived as Svetka for so many years, so it»s too late to change anything,« told Svetlana.
«Alexander is on the list of popular names year after year,» noticed Tatyana.
«I»ve noticed that people with rare names quite often reach career heights, especially women. In my circle, Lana, Yesenia, and Angelina have become managers. My mom wanted to name me Glafira. Maybe I would be a director now too,« added Ksenia.
Most Reactions
A post about how reaching a certain age is no longer enough to receive a pension gathered the most reactions. Judging by them, most NGS readers have not yet accumulated the required 30 pension points.
More details about the system and what else is needed for payments were explained in the cards.
«One point for 65,000 rubles (approximately $650 at current rates), to get a 20,000-ruble pension,» noted Vasily.
«To be honest, 30 IPC × 65,600 rubles = almost 2,000,000 rubles (approximately $20,000 at current rates) as the »entry cost« for a pension, and with an average salary, accumulating these points isn»t a matter of a year or two, but over 20+ years of stable employment,« clarified a Novosibirsk resident.
«A decent pension, simple and honest accumulation of it, effective multiplication of these »long« and therefore very useful for any conscientious investment money. That»s what I wish would become a national idea. Add on the other side real support for families with children, and it would be enough for the country«s social revival. It»s a pity they don«t do that,» remarked Alexander.
«I checked my savings. 59.5 points. 22 years of service. Another 7 years to work until pension, and assuming a salary of 100,000 rubles (approximately $1,000 at current rates), the pension will be about 19,000 rubles,» shared Yelena.
«I remember how they urged us to invest in a funded pension and promised the state would add to it. And where is that funded part? Now it»s some points. The pension formula will always be tweaked so there«s enough to distribute to all pensioners, not based on how much you invested in your own pension,» wrote Alexey.

NGS readers most often shared a video of the collapse of a shopping center on Naumov Street. The building collapsed, presumably due to accumulated snow on the roof. Three people were pulled from the rubble: two women were hospitalized, and another man died in the ambulance.
More about the entire situation was told in the cards.
