Novosibirsk merchant house ruins sold, restoration required

In Novosibirsk, a cultural heritage site at Fabrichnaya Street, 19, will be restored by an investor. The ruins of a merchant house were sold at auction on January 29 for 2.6 million rubles (about $26,000 at current rates), with a starting price of 1 ruble (about $0.01 at current rates).
As Novosibirsk Mayor Maxim Kudryavtsev said, the monument of wooden architecture has long been in unsatisfactory condition.
«To attract investment, we are implementing a pilot project in the city for the sale of such buildings with historical value. A mandatory condition for new owners is to restore the cultural heritage site,» said Maxim Kudryavtsev.
Along with the purchase of the building, the winner signs a long-term lease agreement for the land plot underneath it for only 1 ruble per year (about $0.01 at current rates). This preferential rate will be valid for five years. This time is allocated for restoration work.
NGS sent a request to the press center of the Novosibirsk mayor«s office to get a comment.
On Fabrichnaya Street, there are many historical buildings besides number 19. NGS covered the story of who lives in this area and how in a report.
At the end of January, auctions were held for the sale of two cultural heritage sites — houses of the «Novo-Nikolaevsk» station residential complex on Yakusheva Street. One of them was subsequently put up for sale again.
