Nizhny Novgorod Region launches $17M smart transport system

The government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region plans to implement a unified transport management platform, Sputnik. This year, regional authorities intend to sign a concession agreement, with the creation and maintenance of the digital platform estimated at nearly 1.69 billion rubles (about $16.9 million at current rates).
The system will include:
- software suite and specialized software;
- stationary photo and video enforcement systems for traffic violations;
- server and technological equipment.
The platform will be able to monitor intelligent transport system infrastructure, as well as forecast and analyze road traffic accidents. The project is expected to take about three years from the signing of the agreement.
Rustam Dosayev, a deputy of the regional Legislative Assembly, noted on his Telegram channel that the launch of Sputnik is a logical continuation of work begun by the authorities in 2021. That year, Nizhny Novgorod began implementing an intelligent transport system, which included smart traffic lights equipped with video cameras and detectors for analyzing traffic conditions.
«The additions, which will include many intelligent systems, including the »System for Analytics and Forecasting of Road Accidents,« should minimize existing problems,» Dosayev said.
