Nizhny Novgorod Mayor drives during rush hour to assess snow traffic

The mayor drove during evening rush hour to observe road conditions after heavy snowfall.
Nizhny Novgorod Mayor Yury Shalabayev said he decided to personally assess the road situation during snowfall, choosing the time when most residents are returning home. The city head described the trip in his Telegram channel.
According to Shalabayev, the traffic situation is difficult but predictable. Roughly 8 inches (20 cm) of precipitation has fallen over two days of bad weather, with another 10 inches (25 cm) possible by Thursday.
«Of course, in such conditions it takes more time to get to work and home. A similar picture could persist for several more days, until we deal with the aftermath of the bad weather after it ends,» the mayor wrote.
As for special snow-clearing equipment, it is not deployed onto roads during rush hour to avoid worsening the already wild traffic jams. Snow removal is planned for when the number of cars decreases. The machinery, incidentally, will work around the clock.
It was reported earlier this evening that the city was gridlocked with a 10-point traffic jam index. Read about where traffic is worst in the previous report.
