The promised snowfalls have arrived in Nizhny Novgorod, and a strong blizzard covered the city on Tuesday morning. Up to 20 cm of snow may fall just today.

In his Telegram channel, Mayor Yuri Shalabaev of Nizhny Novgorod said that additional equipment and workers will be deployed for snow removal. Some students will even join the efforts, forming separate teams to deal with the aftermath of the bad weather.

«The situation will be difficult, and problems, let»s face it, are unavoidable, but we will cope with them,« added the mayor.

The city hall also reported that equipment and road companies have already started working. First and foremost, they will clean the main city arteries.

People are asked to be especially careful on the roads and not to leave cars on the shoulders so that equipment can pass freely.

Alas, the forecasts from meteorologists are not encouraging. As reported by Olga Mokeeva, head of the meteorological forecasts department at the Federal State Budgetary Institution «Verkhne-Volzhskoye UGMS» (Upper Volga Hydrometeorological Service), the snowfalls will drag on for almost the entire week, and after that, frosts will return to Nizhny.

«In the Nizhny Novgorod region, an active atmospheric front of a wavy Mediterranean cyclone will shift. Unstable snowy weather will persist almost throughout the entire work week. By Thursday, the temperature will rise to -5 degrees Celsius (23°F), but on Friday, with increasing atmospheric pressure, frosts will come again,» said the meteorologist.

Additionally, during severe frosts, schoolchildren are allowed to stay home. At what temperature children can skip educational institutions was discussed in a previous article.
