Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region Gleb Nikitin in an interview with Match TV stated a shortage of hotel rooms in the region and often inflated prices for accommodation.
The occasion for discussion was a case cited by a journalist: his acquaintance, planning a visit to Nizhny Novgorod, encountered that many hotels had no vacancies, and where rooms were available, the cost was excessively high.
The head of the region agreed that the problem exists and explained it by the sharp increase in the number of tourists. «It«s a market. We have no regulation of hotel prices. And it would be impossible to introduce it, because it is an absolutely unnatural monopoly. There are price spikes, but in general, it can be said that we lack hotel rooms. This is due to a dramatic increase in tourist flow,» said Nikitin.
To address the issue, it is planned to build several new hotels in Nizhny Novgorod, most of which will be located in the city center.
