New 95-Meter Pedestrian Overpass to Ease Transfers in Eastern Moscow

A 95-meter-long pedestrian overpass will be built in eastern Moscow. It will be located near the «Bulvar Rokossovskogo» station of the Moscow Central Circle (MCC), and changes have already been made to the territory planning project for this purpose. This was announced by Vladimir Efimov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Planning Policy and Construction.
A territory of 4.25 hectares has been designated for the project development. After opening, access to the Moscow Central Circle station will become more convenient.
«As a result, transport services for residents of the Metrogorodok and Bogorodskoye districts will improve, whose pedestrian routes currently run along sidewalks on Otkrytoye Highway, including via the overpass at the intersection with the Moscow Speed Diameter and MCC,» explained Efimov, head of Moscow«s Urban Planning Complex.
The appearance of the pedestrian gallery should reduce road congestion and make transfers to public transport more convenient. Exiting the MCC and walking to the tram tracks will take about a minute instead of six, and new stops will be installed on the tram overpass.
«The new pedestrian overpass will make movement between districts faster and more comfortable, improve access to the Bulvar Rokossovskogo station of the Moscow Central Circle, and simplify transfers between trams, MCC, and other types of transport,» added Vladislav Ovchinsky, Minister of the Moscow Government and head of the Department of Urban Planning Policy.
Around the new pedestrian overpass, they promise to improve the territory: update sidewalks, install lighting, and green the surroundings of the gallery.
Recently, authorities reported that near the MCC station, roads will also be built and reconstructed, a terminal building for buses will be erected, and an underground pedestrian crossing will be laid across Ivanteyevskaya Street and Otkrytoye Highway.
The Sokolnicheskaya line will be extended in a few years from the «Bulvar Rokossovskogo» station to Yaroslavskoye Highway. And in the vicinity of Moscow-City, nearly 25 kilometers of new roads will be built.
