Mystery of Block 108: Unidentified Burials in Novosibirsk
The city hall of Novosibirsk allocates a specific cemetery block for burials of unidentified individuals.
In Novosibirsk, 71 people whose identity was not established were buried in 2025. NGS.RU reported this in response to a request to the city hall.
People from the «unidentified» category are buried in a separate area. The city hall clarified that block 108 at the Kleshchinskoye cemetery has been allocated for this purpose.
The burial of people without relatives or other representatives is handled by the Municipal State Institution «Ritual Services» (MKU).
«After the identity of the deceased is confirmed by the relevant authorities, the procedure must be carried out no later than three days from the discovery of the circumstances of death,» added the Novosibirsk city hall.
Last week, NGS.RU investigated how Novosibirsk residents are buried. It turned out that in more than half of the cases, the deceased are preferred to be cremated. At the same time, cemeteries remain almost 90% full.
