Motorists in Volgograd complain about strange glitch in 'City Parking' app

A Volgograd resident encountered an unusual glitch in the «City Parking» app when trying to park his car in the city center in an area with mobile internet coverage. The app allowed starting the parking timer, but completing it was impossible—he had to drive several kilometers away from where the car was temporarily parked.

— The definite plus of paid parking is that you can find a spot even in the morning in the very center of the city, on Krasnoznamenskaya Street,— said the puzzled Volgograd resident. — The minus is that the app works somehow strangely. I parked near the puppet theater, mobile internet was available, apps not only from the «white list» were working. Starting the parking was no problem. But when it was time to leave— problems began.

According to the man, when pressing the «End Parking» button, the app gave an error, citing lack of mobile internet. Attempting to end parking by sending an SMS to the number indicated on the poster in the paid parking zone also led nowhere— a message came back about the inability to perform the operation.

— In the end, I managed to end the parking only at the exit from Rostovskaya Street to Vtoraya Prodolnaya Street,— said the motorist. — And here, it«s not even about the money— I managed to stay within one hour and the amount of 40 rubles (less than $1 at current rates). It»s about the principle, otherwise it turns into a one-sided game. Plus, let«s not forget about simple human inattention. Someone might well press the end parking button and not see that it didn»t work. Then be surprised by huge parking bills.

V1.RU is checking with the Volgograd administration on what motorists should do in such cases.
