Moscow snowfall and frost to end with short temperature waves

Forecasters predict that heavy snow will persist in Moscow until the end of the week.

Heavy snowfall caused by a warm atmospheric front will continue in Moscow at least until Thursday. This forecast was given by Tatiana Pozdnyakova, head of the capital«s weather bureau, in a conversation with MSK1.RU.

On Tuesday, January 27, heavy snow is expected throughout the day, Pozdnyakova added. At night, blizzards are possible in some areas, leading to snowdrifts and slush on roads. Gusty winds of 12-14 m/s. During the day, thermometers will show -5…-7°C (23…19°F), at night — -10…-12°C (14…10°F).

A slight warming is expected on Wednesday, January 28. Air temperatures will be slightly above the climatic norm — throughout the day in the capital, -5…-7°C (23…19°F) is expected. At night, heavy snow will persist in some areas, but during the day its intensity will decrease. A strong southeast wind will continue.

On Thursday, January 29, snow will fall at times. Air temperature will drop slightly, but will change little throughout the day. In Moscow, -7…-9°C (19…16°F) is expected in the region — down to -12°C (10°F). In the following days, cloudy weather with clearings is forecast.

“There won’t be much snow. The temperature will start to drop. At night, the prevailing temperature will be -10…-15°C (14…5°F), during the day -7…-12°C (19…10°F), and the wind will change to northeast. That is, the air temperature will again be below the climatic norm, by about 3-4 degrees. Such short waves of heat and cold await residents of the capital region this week,” concluded Pozdnyakova.

Earlier, the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) issued an emergency warning about a powerful snowfall in Moscow and the Moscow region.
