Moscow Snowfall: 20% of Monthly Norm in Two Days

Snowfall continues in Moscow for the second day. According to meteorologists, over the past day, 20% of the monthly norm has fallen in the capital. This amount will only increase during the day. This was stated by leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, Yevgeny Tishkovets.

«In Moscow, 20% of the monthly precipitation norm has fallen in a day, and in the Moscow region — 50% of what»s expected for all of January! Over the past day, at the reference Moscow weather station at VDNKh, 10 mm of precipitation fell in water equivalent, the same in Tushino, and at Balchug — 11 mm, which constitutes 20% of the monthly norm,« the meteorologist noted.

In the Moscow region, the most snow fell in Kashira, Cherusti, Serpukhov, Volokolamsk, and Naro-Fominsk.

Meanwhile, on January 28, the capital continues to be in the zone of an atmospheric front. Cloudy weather is expected in the city, with the sky covered by a snowy veil. As for the temperature, in the capital, it is expected to be -6… -8 °C (21…18 °F), and in the region -5… -10 °C (23…14 °F). The wind is north-eastern, 2–7 m/s.

Throughout today, the snowfall will not end. Meteorologists are sure that tomorrow, January 29, Muscovites should expect a new portion of precipitation. The temperature will vary: at night from -9 to -11 °C (16…12 °F), during the day -7… -9 °C (19…16 °F).

For the second day, snowdrifts are growing in the city. Therefore, on Miusskaya Square in the Tverskoy district of Moscow, the «Great Dune,» a social media legend, has «resurrected». This is what city residents call the snow piles that appear here after street cleaning in the city center.
