Meteorologists Report 12 mm Snow in Volgograd Overnight
Overnight snowfall in Volgograd and Volgograd Oblast reached 12 mm, more than half the monthly norm, as a cold front passed through the region. Meteorologists explain the cause and warn of further frosts.

Specialists from the Volgograd TsGMS (Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring) reported how much snow fell over the past night in Volgograd and Volgograd Oblast. During the hours of snowfall, more than half the monthly precipitation norm fell on the region.
— The snowfall was caused by the passage of a cold front across Volgograd Oblast, — said the department of hydrometeorological support of the Volgograd TsGMS. — 12 millimeters of precipitation fell overnight, with the average ten-day norm being 14 millimeters. In the future, due to the passage of a Siberian anticyclone, we do not expect significant precipitation, but further temperature drops are forecast. Its peak will occur on February 5, when overnight in the region temperatures of -20 to -25°C (-4 to -13°F) are expected, and in the north and northeast of the region — down to -32°C (-26°F). The frosts will persist until February 7, after which we expect a sharp weakening of the cold.
According to the Hydrometcenter of Russia, on the night of Wednesday, February 4, the city will see -24°C (-11°F). During the day, thermometers will show -18°C (0°F), and at night they will drop to -26°C (-15°F). However, already on Sunday, February 8, the city will see -1°C (30°F) during the day. But by Monday, February 9, the city will become nine times colder, but after a couple of days the temperature will rise again, and even at night it will be no colder than -4°C (25°F).
