McConnell hospitalized after flu-like symptoms

Veteran American politician Mitch McConnell, the 83-year-old Republican senator from Kentucky, was admitted to a hospital on Monday evening after experiencing flu-like symptoms over the weekend.

A representative for the 83-year-old Republican from Kentucky said that he sought medical attention on Monday evening. According to the press office, the decision was made «out of an abundance of caution» after the politician«s health worsened over the weekend.

Those close to McConnell are optimistic and report a positive prognosis. «He is grateful for the excellent care he is receiving,» the statement said. It also noted that the senator remains in regular contact with his staff and looks forward to returning to work.

The exact duration of hospitalization was not disclosed. This is not the first time the politician has faced health issues.
In October of last year, McConnell fell in the Capitol building when activists asked him about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Assistants helped him up, after which he continued working and even voted. Footage of the incident later appeared on social media.
Earlier this year, McConnell announced that he would not seek re-election in 2026 but intends to serve out his current term through January 2027.
