Mayor Shalabaev Addresses Residents Ahead of Snowy Weekend

Heavy snowfall may return to Nizhny Novgorod as early as this weekend. According to forecasts, Saturday and Sunday will be quite snowy. The city is preparing for a possible storm after the lull, Mayor Yuri Shalabaev said.

He noted that while the snowfall has not resumed, road workers are actively removing snow. Main roads, in the official«s assessment, are in good condition — cleared down to the asphalt. However, in the courtyards, the «situation is contrasting».

«I was on a trip this morning; the frost is, of course, quite severe here. Winter in general has given many cities a test this year with its primordial attributes — snowfalls and frost. We have a lull with the former now. I don«t want to say it»s the lull before the storm, but according to current forecasts, we are in for a rather snowy weekend,» Shalabaev said.

Today, among other things, the mayor plans to hold a meeting on the purchase of snow removal equipment. The head of the city believes that in 2021 this issue was «moved from a near dead point». Then large-scale purchases of specialized equipment began. Now the fleets of city road enterprises have been updated by more than 400 vehicles. Shalabaev promised to continue this work.

He also said that he will visit the museum of N. A. Dobrolyubov, as for the 190th anniversary of our illustrious fellow countryman, together with colleagues from Kostroma, they have prepared a unique exhibition there.
