A massive power outage occurred on Friday evening on Angarskaya Street in the Dzerzhinsky district of Volgograd. Dozens of apartment buildings were suddenly plunged into darkness, causing inconvenience for residents who had returned after the work week.

One local resident reported that the power had been out for about an hour. According to her, the emergency service explained the reason: malfunctions at transformer substations have led to electricity being supplied to residential buildings in a checkerboard pattern.

«It»s been an hour without light, my mother told me,« lamented the distressed Volgograd woman. »And it«s like this all along the street, but not in every house: the emergency service said that something happened at several transformer substations in the district, and electricity is reaching residential buildings in a checkerboard pattern. They say they»ve already gone to fix it, promised to restore everything by night. But for now, lighting is only with candles…«

AO «Volgogradskie Mezhraionnye Elektricheskie Seti» (Volgograd Inter-District Electric Networks) confirmed that a repair team is addressing a local technical failure. The estimated time for restoring power supply is about two hours.

Earlier, a similar incident occurred in the Voroshilovsky district of Volgograd. There, a blackout left residents of the «Druzhba-2» garden partnership without heating during the Epiphany frosts.
