The dividing line between secondary vocational and higher education continues to blur. Modern colleges serve a dual role: they allow students to master a profession and simultaneously become a platform for continuing education. Many are established at universities or integrated into their structure, while universities, in turn, actively develop practice-oriented programs, thus building continuous educational pathways.

The roundtable, organized by Fontanka, will focus on analyzing such educational tracks, coordinating different levels of education, as well as the advantages and complexities of the «college–university» model.

The discussion is planned to address the following key questions:

  • Why are more and more applicants choosing secondary vocational education? Is this choice conscious?
  • Has the profile of college entrants changed over the past 3–5 years — their motivation, level of preparation, and expectations? Can it be said that college has ceased to be a «dead-end» educational pathway?
  • Which models of integration between colleges and universities have proven effective? What does such a union offer both sides? Is it more expedient to attach colleges to universities or create them from scratch?
  • How synchronized are the educational programs of secondary vocational education and higher education in terms of content and competency requirements? Should a student immediately decide whether college is the final goal or a step on the way to university?
  • Where is the boundary between practice-oriented and academic learning? Should this boundary be preserved?
  • What is the degree of employer involvement in designing secondary vocational and university programs within a single track? How can the model of targeted training be implemented?
  • Does the «secondary vocational education–university» system allow for a quicker response to personnel shortages in specific economic sectors?

Representatives from universities, colleges, employer companies, and education experts are invited to participate.

Following the event, a special report will be published on the Fontanka.ru website.

The roundtable is scheduled for March 11, starting at 12:00.

The format of the event will be announced later.
