Man Given Suspended Sentence for Assaulting Police Officer
In the summer of 2025, in the Znamensky district of the Tambov region, patrol officers stopped a man to suppress an administrative offense — being in a public place while intoxicated. During the check, it turned out that he had come to the region from the Voronezh region to visit acquaintances. While being transported to a medical facility for examination, while in a service vehicle, the citizen headbutted a police officer in the face. The investigation established that his actions caused physical pain to the officer who was on duty.
A criminal case was opened under Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation («Use of violence against a representative of authority»). The case materials were sent to court. The Sampursky District Court reviewed the case and found the man guilty. He was sentenced to one year of imprisonment suspended with a probationary period of the same duration. The court also ordered the convicted man to fulfill a number of obligations established during the probation period. Additionally, the perpetrator was ordered to pay compensation for moral damages to the injured police officer. The amount was 20,000 rubles ($222 at current rates). As of now, the court verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
