Kstovo residents warned about medal scam calls

In the Kstovsky District (Nizhny Novgorod Oblast), cases of scam calls have become more frequent, with unknown individuals inviting residents to the local administration to receive medals. This caused a flood of inquiries to the mayor«s office, and officials had to warn the public about the scammers» scheme.
The criminals, addressing people by their first name and patronymic, send fake invitations via email. The documents mention offices No. 3 and No. 9 in the Kstovo administration building, but such rooms do not exist in the institution.
The Kstovsky District Administration issued an official comment: «At the same time, to “clarify data,” the criminals ask for passport details, SNILS (Russian personal insurance number), and other personal information. The Kstovsky District Administration does not request personal data over the phone or by email. In case of such calls, immediately hang up and block the number.» Earlier, scammers used a similar scheme, posing as telecom operators. They claimed that it was necessary to urgently renew the contract, otherwise the number would be disconnected.
