The day before, on 26 January, city head Sergei Vereshchagin signed a document that obliges naming the road section from Krasnodarskaya Street to the building at Molokova Street, 1d, as «Buvaisar Saitiev Street». It is worth noting that near the new street, there is also a sports school named after Buvaisar Saitiev — on Aviagorodok Street.

The mayor of Krasnoyarsk himself noted that he signed this resolution on the eve of a significant event — the Ivan Yarygin Cup. These international competitions are starting in Krasnoyarsk for the 37th time.

«The initiative to immortalize the memory of three-time Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling, Honorary Citizen of our city Buvaisar Saitiev came from representatives of the Federation of Sports Wrestling of Krasnoyarsk Krai,» added the mayor.

Recall that Honorary Citizen of Krasnoyarsk Buvaisar Saitiev died at the age of 49. The preliminary cause named by doctors was cardiac arrest.

Buvaisar Saitiev was a winner of the Olympic Games in 1996, 2004, and 2008 in the weight category up to 74 kilograms. Saitiev won the world championship six times and the European championship six times.

He was born on 11 March 1975 in Khasavyurt, Republic of Dagestan. At age 14, Saitiev became a master of sport, and at 15, he moved to Novokuznetsk, where he continued wrestling at a specialized boarding school. On his brother«s advice, Buvaisar Saitiev moved to Krasnoyarsk, where there was the best wrestling school in the country, and began training under Dmitry Mindiashvili.

After his last Olympics in 2008, the athlete left Krasnoyarsk and returned to his native Khasavyurt. In 2010, Saitiev was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Krasnoyarsk. Since 2016, he has been a deputy of the State Duma and an advisor to the heads of Chechnya and Dagestan.

Earlier, NGS24.RU published an interview with Svetlana Maslova, who in 2008 fed Buvaisar Saitiev for two weeks before the Olympics.
