Firefighters contained a blaze at Kochetovka station in Michurinsk, Tambov Region, that engulfed 11 gasoline tankers and five gas tankers. The fire covered 1,000 square meters.
Two fire trains and 25 units of specialized equipment have been deployed to eliminate the emergency. As the regional Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) clarified, rescuers are working under high temperatures, and the rapid spread of flames is due to the properties of flammable substances. Air-mechanical foam is being used for extinguishing.
On the order of Tambov Region Governor Evgeny Pervyshov, an operational headquarters has been set up in Michurinsk, headed by Deputy Governor Evgeny Zimenko. Pervyshov wrote on his social media: «There are no casualties, there is no threat to the population or other infrastructure facilities. After the fire is extinguished, an inspection of the railway tracks for damage will be carried out, and then repair crews will begin restoration work. The work of the operational headquarters in Michurinsk continues.»
Rail traffic has already been restored: the first train was rerouted around the affected section. OJSC Russian Railways (RZD) will soon form an updated schedule indicating delay times. Current information on train movements is available in the RZD Passengers mobile app and on the company«s website.
