January's Enchanting Sunsets in Nizhny Novgorod

After several cloudy days, the sun gave Nizhny Novgorod residents a bright sunset.
January in Nizhny Novgorod has been especially snowy and cloudy, with frequent snowfalls. After a long period when the city was hidden under snowdrifts and adorned with frost patterns, the sun finally appeared, reminding of its reputation as the sunset capital. Photo correspondent Natalya Burukhina captured a series of enchanting shots of evening streets in the rays of the setting sun.

In Nizhny Novgorod, the temperature dropped to minus 20 degrees Celsius (−4°F).
However, clear weather will soon change: already on Tuesday, January 27, a heavy snowstorm is expected. According to forecasts, it will last several days and bring a lot of snow. Mayor Yuri Shalabayev stated: «In a short period, more than 70 cm of snow could fall.»

The snow clouds dispersed, revealing a clear sky.
The monthly precipitation norm for January has already been exceeded. By this indicator, Nizhny Novgorod surpasses Moscow and Kazan, where strong snowfalls also occurred during the New Year holidays, adding to the snow cover.

The sun painted the sky in orange, red, and pink shades.

In some areas, the sky turned fiery red.

From Grebeshkovsky Slope, a view opens up to the Zarechnaya district.

Fedorovsky Embankment also became a spot for sunset viewing.

The snow-covered city looks cozy and attractive.
