Governor Cites 'Dramatic Tourism Growth' as Hotel Prices Spike

Governor Gleb Nikitin said that Nizhny Novgorod lacks hotels, and existing ones often have excessively high room prices. The regional head stated this in an interview with Match TV.
The journalist said that recently his friend wanted to visit Nizhny Novgorod but encountered great difficulties booking a hotel. Some hotels had no vacancies, while others had rooms that were too expensive.
The regional head confirmed that there is a hotel problem in the Nizhny Novgorod region, and it is linked to a «dramatic growth in tourist flow.»
«This is the market. We have no regulation of hotel prices. And it would be impossible to introduce such regulation because it would be an absolutely unnatural monopoly. Price spikes occur, but overall, it is fair to say that we lack hotel rooms. This is due to the dramatic growth in tourist traffic,» the governor said.
By the way, the problem with hotels in Nizhny Novgorod is set to be resolved. In the near future, construction of several such facilities is planned, most of which will be located in the city center. Read more about all these projects in the previous article.
