Governor Chibis on accelerating major repairs in Murmansk region

At Governor Andrey Chibis«s press conference, questions were raised about whether it»s possible to speed up the major repairs of buildings, and if so, how to do it.

The governor responded that the major repairs program was scheduled at a certain time, and the deadlines can only be moved through a technical assessment if the situation is critical.

«If you move someone to an earlier date, you have to move someone else to a later date. And that can only be done with a decision from the property owners, who would never give such consent,» said Chibis.

To resolve the issue of moving deadlines, the governor recommended accumulating funds for major repairs in a special account and making independent decisions about the work.

«We consciously make decisions about the streets that are significant, thoroughfares, and affect the entire city. Objectively, a comfortable urban environment and what you see are extremely important for self-perception. I was told that before, people were hesitant to invite guests to the city because the facades were broken and so on, but now they are proud,» the head of the region stated.

Also, according to Chibis, the practice of using funds from the regional budget for major repairs will continue.

The final decision on which streets will be repaired this year will be made within two weeks.

«As for housing construction: construction is ongoing. We had many debates, there were people who recommended forgetting this idea. It»s more expensive for us to build. But how do we make it profitable for developers? Thanks to the preferential mortgage program, a decision was made. Given this decision, we are quickly allocating land plots and providing infrastructure,« said Chibis.

According to the governor, there are more developers wanting to start projects in the Murmansk region. He also noted that people are buying two- and three-room apartments in new buildings.
