Government orders Lenfilm transfer to St. Petersburg by May
Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has signed an order to transfer the Lenfilm film studio to city ownership within four months.

The government order, dated January 27, obliges the transfer of 100% of shares of JSC «Lenfilm Studio» to St. Petersburg.
This decision implements a decree by President Vladimir Putin from December 2025, which also discussed transferring the studio to the city, but with a six-month deadline.
Discussions on changing Lenfilm«s status began back in September, when the Smolny (St. Petersburg city administration) confirmed corresponding plans. At the same time, it became known that the president instructed Rosimushchestvo (the Federal Agency for State Property Management) to prepare documents for the share transfer.
The studio itself claimed that it had developed a five-year development concept, including renovation projects, but its details were not made public.
The enterprise«s financial situation remains difficult: by the end of 2025, its debt exceeded 100 million rubles (approximately $1 million at current rates).
