Giant 'Tsar Icicle' Has Endangered Nizhny Novgorod Residents for Years

A colossal icicle, dubbed the «Tsar Icicle,» has been threatening the residents of an apartment building in Nizhny Novgorod for many years.
The icy mass is located on house number 9 on Meditsinskaya Street. Its dimensions are staggering: the ice buildup stretches across five floors, completely covering windows and balconies.
According to local resident Svetlana, the problem has been under discussion for years, but no effective measures have been taken so far.
«This icicle is many, many years old. It»s been there for as long as we«ve lived here, and sometimes it has been even worse. No matter how much we complain — people come, take photos, and leave. They give us this answer: it»s impossible to knock it down because the nearest balconies are private property, and no one is allowed to touch them,« Svetlana shared.
A request has been sent to the regional State Housing Inspection (Goszhilinspektsiya) to clarify why the dangerous ice buildup cannot be removed and what measures are planned.
Previously, in the Avtozavodsky district of Nizhny Novgorod, falling ice from a roof caused a spinal injury to a 12-year-old boy. A criminal case was initiated over the incident.
