Producer for Lady Gaga, known by the pseudonym Gesaffelstein, caused a real stir on the 2026 Grammy red carpet by appearing in a completely unrecognizable form — his head was fully concealed under a black mirrored mask, as media reports. This look, which some called «creepy,» divided opinion online.

Before the start of the television broadcast, the musician managed to receive his first Grammy statue in the «Best Remixed Recording» category for his work on Gaga«s single »Abracadabra.« Accepting the award in the black mask and gloves, which left not a single centimeter of skin visible, Gesaffelstein did not utter a word, only bowed and blew a kiss to the hall.

Although the musician«s appearance confused and even scared some of the audience, this black mask and gloves are part of his stage image, which he used during the promotion of his album »Gamma« (2024) and on tour. A debate erupted on social media.

  • «What is this even? Hollywood is something creepy,» one user exclaimed.
  • «So is blackface okay again?» asked others, apparently not understanding that it was a mask, not makeup on his face.

However, the artist had his defenders. «That»s just Gesaffelstein, a great DJ. He always dresses like that when he performs,« his fans retorted.

Lady Gaga, with whom the producer worked on the album «Mayhem,» also attracted attention with her look at the ceremony, appearing in a dramatic black feathered dress. The singer in an interview praised the collaboration with Gesaffelstein, noting that an attempt to work with him back in 2013 failed due to scheduling conflicts.

Gaga stated that the joint work on the track «Killah» gave her «absolute confidence in herself.» She also praised her French colleague for their joint ballad «Blade of Grass,» calling it classically beautiful and noting that Gesaffelstein strove for originality.
