Frosts Recede as Irkutsk Awaits Slight Warming Next Week

Meteorologists forecast a break from the severe cold with slightly higher temperatures in the Irkutsk area.
For almost the entire week, residents of the Irkutsk region were haunted by the Asian anticyclone, which brought abnormal frosts to the area, and made Epiphany 2026 (the Christian feast day) the coldest in the last 60 years. But it seems the extreme weather is behind us. We share the forecasts from the Irkutsk Hydrometeorological Center for the start of the new work week.
In Irkutsk on January 26, variable cloudiness is expected, with light snow at night and in the morning, and mostly no precipitation during the day. The wind will be northwest at 3–8 m/s, with temperatures at night of -22 to -24 °C (-8 to -11 °F), and during the day -14 to -16 °C (7 to 3 °F).

Across the region as a whole, cloudy weather is expected. During the day, light snow is likely in some areas, while in the northern districts, no significant precipitation is forecast throughout the day, with west and northwest winds at 5–10 m/s.
