A sharp cold snap is beginning in Tula. Already on the night of 4 February, the air temperature in the city will drop to −25 to −23°C (−13 to −9°F). During the day, the severe frosts will ease slightly, but it will still be very cold — forecasters predict only −15 to −13°C (5 to 9°F). No significant precipitation is expected; the weather will be mostly dry, but due to the low temperatures, icy conditions will persist on roads and sidewalks.
The situation is even harsher in the Tula region. At night, thermometers may locally show −30 to −25°C (−22 to −13°F), and during the day −17 to −12°C (1 to 10°F). Such readings are considered quite low for this season, so residents are advised to limit time outdoors if possible, especially children and the elderly.
Meteorologists warn that this is only the beginning of the cold wave. The peak of the frost is expected on 5 February — that day could become the coldest of the week. Already on 6 February, nighttime temperatures are forecast at −26 to −21°C (−15 to −6°F), and during the day they will remain in the range of −15 to −10°C (5 to 14°F).
For reference, the coldest night so far this winter in the region is considered to be 25 January, when −27.4°C (−17.3°F) was recorded. If the forecasts hold, the coming days may approach these values or even match them.
