Frosts down to -33 degrees expected in Nizhny Novgorod Region

Frigid conditions have gripped the Nizhny Novgorod Region with temperatures plunging well below seasonal averages.
On the night of February 4, a severe cold snap is expected in the Nizhny Novgorod Region — in some places, air temperature will drop to -33 degrees Celsius (-27.4°F). This is reported in the operational forecast on the website of the Nizhny Novgorod Emergency Situations Department.
According to weather forecasters, at night the air temperature in the region will drop to -29 degrees Celsius (-20.2°F), during the day it will warm up to -17 to -22 degrees Celsius (1.4 to -7.6°F). In some areas, light snow and ice are expected. The cold weather will persist on February 5 and 6 — at night, frosts down to -25 degrees Celsius (-13°F) are forecast.
As reported in the operational forecast, during the cold spell, the likelihood of fires, emergencies at energy supply and utilities facilities will increase. «Nizhnovenergo» reported that they are working in a state of high readiness. 136 teams, comprising over 600 specialists, are ready for operational response.
«Energy workers urge residents to be vigilant and cautious; if broken power lines are discovered, under no circumstances should they be approached, but reported to the energy company or the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) department,» noted the press service of «Nizhnovenergo».
Recall that in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, abnormally cold weather persists with average daily air temperatures 7-14°C (12.6-25.2°F) below the climatic norm (for our region, the norm is -9 to -13 degrees Celsius (15.8 to 8.6°F)).
