In the Nizhny Novgorod region, a rise in ARVI (acute respiratory viral infection) cases among children has been recorded. Four schools in the region are fully closed for quarantine. In several other institutions, including kindergartens, the educational process has been partially suspended, according to the press service of the regional Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing).

Sanitary doctors say that due to the rise in illness, schools and kindergartens have introduced disinfection regimes in «viral» mode, operation of bactericidal irradiators, ventilation, and other measures. About 3% of all educational institutions in the region are partially closed.

Specialists from the agency are urging parents not to send children with signs of respiratory infections to schools and kindergartens. Additionally, those not vaccinated against flu are advised to avoid public places. Rospotrebnadzor says that restrictive measures have been introduced in medical organizations: mask regime, separation of patient flows, enhanced disinfection regimes, and visitation to patients has been canceled.

In total, in the Nizhny Novgorod region, about 15,000 cases of respiratory infections were registered for the week from January 19 to January 25. Across the country after the New Year holidays, the incidence of ARVI increased by one and a half times. In the third week of January, about 15,200 cases of flu were registered. Among the strains, A (H3N2) still dominates.
