Four schools closed for quarantine in Nizhny Novgorod Region

The number of children with ARVI is increasing in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
A rise in acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) among children in the Nizhny Novgorod Region has led to the full quarantine closure of four schools. In a number of other educational institutions, including kindergartens, the educational process has been partially suspended, the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor (Russia«s Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) reported.
To contain the spread of the infection, schools and kindergartens have introduced enhanced measures: disinfection in «virus» mode, the use of bactericidal irradiators, and regular ventilation of premises. About 3% of all educational institutions in the region have transitioned to partial closure.
Department specialists have appealed to parents not to send children with symptoms of respiratory diseases to schools and kindergartens. Those not vaccinated against influenza are advised to avoid public places. Restrictive measures are also in effect in medical organizations:
- mask regimen,
- separation of patient flows,
- enhanced disinfection,
- prohibition on visiting patients.
In total, during the week from January 19 to 25, about 15 thousand cases of respiratory infections were registered in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Across the country, after the New Year holidays, the incidence of ARVI has increased by one and a half times. In the third week of January, about 15.2 thousand cases of influenza were noted, with the dominant strain continuing to be A (H3N2).
