Forest rehabilitation work begins in Tambov Oblast

In all forestry enterprises of Tambov Oblast, work has started aimed at rehabilitating the forest fund. The first stage is clear sanitary felling. These actions are carried out in accordance with the federal project «Forest Conservation», which is part of the national project «Environmental Well-being». The initiative has been implemented by decision of President Vladimir Putin since 2025. In the current year, 2026, such work is planned over an area of more than 2,400 hectares.

Sanitary felling is a necessary measure to protect forests. Removing diseased and dead trees promotes the growth of healthy young plants and significantly increases the level of fire safety in these areas. Before assigning felling, experts conduct a detailed survey of forest plots. Only those areas where trees have completely lost viability are subject to logging. A new forest will be planted in the places of clear felling.

«In spring and autumn 2026, we plan to carry out reforestation on 900 hectares. The soil has already been prepared for new plantings. Young pines and oaks will be planted on these plots. This work will allow us to preserve and increase the green wealth of our region for future generations,» noted Acting Director of the Tambov Oblast Department of Forestry Valery Khodaev. All ongoing activities correspond to the objectives of the national project «Environmental Well-being», aimed at preserving and increasing the biological productivity of forest ecosystems.
