Forecasters Report Snowfall and Frost in Volgograd Region
Meteorologists explained that a cold front caused heavy snowfall in Volgograd Region, and forecast severe frosts with temperatures dropping to -32°C (-26°F).

Volgograd forecasters reported that a large amount of snow fell over the region during the past night. Precipitation amounted to more than 50% of the monthly norm.
According to specialists from the Volgograd Center for Hydrometeorological Monitoring (TsGMS), the snowfall was caused by the passage of a cold front. «The snowfall was caused by the passage of a cold front over Volgograd Region,» said the department of hydrometeorological support of the Volgograd Center for Hydrometeorological Monitoring (TsGMS). «During the night, 12 mm of precipitation fell, with the average ten-day norm being 14 mm.»
Meteorologists noted that due to a Siberian anticyclone, no significant precipitation is expected in the coming days, but temperatures will drop significantly. The peak of the cold snap is forecast for February 5: at night, temperatures of -20°C to -25°C (-4°F to -13°F) are expected across the region, and in northern and northeastern areas, down to -32°C (-26°F).
Cold weather will persist until February 7, after which the frosts will sharply weaken. According to the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, on the night of February 4, the temperature in Volgograd will drop to -24°C (-11°F). During the day on February 4, it will be -18°C (0°F), and at night, -26°C (-15°F).
Already on Sunday, February 8, it will warm up to -1°C (30°F) during the day. However, by Monday, February 9, it will get colder again. After a few days, the temperature will rise again, and even at night it will not drop below -4°C (25°F).
