«Show your documents,» they asked 58 workers who had arrived from Asian republics to boost the Russian economy. For ten of them — that is, about every sixth — the inspectors had doubts. The work crew of those under suspicion was taken by special bus to the district department.
«As a result of the inspection, 16 administrative protocols were drawn up,» said the regional MVD headquarters. «Eight of them — for illegal employment of a foreign citizen — under Part 1 of Article 18.10 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation. The same number — for violation of the regime of stay on the territory of Russia: Part 1.1 of Article 18.8.»
All those who fell under the second article — that is, were in the country illegally — face a fine from 2,000 to 5,000 rubles (approximately $22 to $55 at current rates) with deportation to their historical homeland. The first eight — migrants who worked without permission — will also be fined the same amounts, but the question of deportation — at the discretion of the justice of the peace court.
