According to documents, on the morning of 10 August 2019, two prison employees were distributing breakfast to inmates. When they reached Epstein«s cell, he did not respond to voice commands, and the door was locked. A guard opened the door and saw Epstein»s body hanging from a long orange rope, likely made from a prison uniform or sheet. The rope was tied to the top bunk.
Dark cuts were visible on Epstein«s neck after the failed resuscitation.

Other images show the aftermath of unsuccessful resuscitation attempts — Epstein«s body on a stretcher with dark cuts on his neck, his face and lips an unusual purple color and swollen. Among the photos are images of what appears to be a makeshift noose made from prison clothing and piles of orange fabric in the cell.

A few weeks earlier, Epstein reportedly made a prior suicide attempt while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Photographs from 23 July 2019 show him semi-conscious in his cell: eyes closed, with an orange «makeshift noose» tightly wrapped around his neck. The report calls this a «possible suicide attempt.»
His cell was littered with shreds of orange fabric from the noose.
