Drone attack on the region

On the night of February 4, a drone danger alert was declared, and it was reissued early in the morning. Restrictions were placed on arrivals and departures at Volgograd Airport. Later, regional governor Andrei Bocharov commented on the situation: air defense forces repelled a terrorist attack by unmanned aerial vehicles on industrial infrastructure in the southern part of the city. During the air defense operation, children from a school in the Krasnoarmeisky district were sent to shelters. The Ministry of Defense later reported that nine drones were shot down over the region in the morning.

Two years in prison for Telegram comments

A 35-year-old resident of Surovikino received a prison sentence for justifying terrorist activity. According to the press service of the FSB for Volgograd Oblast, the man made statements in the Telegram messenger that contained a positive assessment of the activities of a Ukrainian paramilitary organization designated as a terrorist organization by the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation. Which specific terrorist organization Mr. Kravchenko positively evaluated was not specified.

Sale of the round hall of the main post office

Initial reports that the huge classical hall would be put up for auction appeared in December 2025. At that time, Russian Post stated that it was only considering sale options. Yesterday, new concerns arose: according to rumors, employees were told to pack their things and given a deadline until the end of February. Today, the editorial office received a response to an official written request: the relocation of the post office is tentatively scheduled for April 2026. Which organization will occupy the round hall with the Lenin monument remains unknown.

Trial for relation with a minor

The criminal prosecution of Eldor Azizov, director of the Kaustik plant, accused of sexual relations with a person under the age of consent, has been resumed. The trial is being held behind closed doors, presided over by Judge Veronika Kushch, who also handled the criminal case of Alexander Stepanov, former head of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Volgograd Oblast. The accused commented on the situation only once: «I don»t know what these people are trying to achieve. I can say that I saw the victim for the first time in my life at the court hearing.«

Cause of 12-year-old schoolboy«s death

Initially, it was assumed that the cause of death of the child in Petrov Val was an injury from a blow: the boy was walking from school to a group training session with a psychologist and slipped. However, the Investigative Committee later reported that no hematomas were found on the head; the schoolboy died from health problems, but the exact cause has yet to be determined.

Cancellation of school classes

Yesterday, the regional education committee reported that due to frost and black ice, schools in nine cities and districts were switching to distance learning partially or fully. However, today one school in Kamyshin reported that for students in grades 1–4, February 5 will be an unscheduled day off — classes were canceled due to weather conditions.

Verdict for fatal crash

In the Republic of Kalmykia, a verdict was handed down for 42-year-old Vitaly Krechetov for a fatal road accident in 2025. At the time, the driver was under the influence of drugs, driving a bus on the Volgograd–Astrakhan route, veered into oncoming traffic, and crashed into a truck. Four Volgograd residents died in that terrible accident, including guide Margarita Pronina. By decision of the Yustinsky District Court, Vitaly Krechetov was sentenced to 12 years in a general-regime correctional colony with a 2-year 6-month ban on driving.
