The arrest of Gregory Zekka marks a turning point in the investigation of his son«s death.
Last year«s killing of 13-year-old Anthony, grandson of famous bounty hunter Dog, took a new tragic turn. It has become known that Dog»s stepson, Gregory Zekka, was arrested on charges in the boy«s death.
Sheriff Kevin Rambosk announced the charges in a press conference.
As reported by media citing the Collier County Sheriff in Florida, the investigation found that in July last year, Gregory was under the influence of alcohol when handling a firearm. Law enforcement obtained a warrant for his arrest. The man faces charges of intentional murder of a minor with a firearm and using a firearm while intoxicated.
The victim, 13-year-old Anthony, was the grandson of Dog the Bounty Hunter.
«This was a heartbreaking and preventable tragedy. Our detectives conducted a thorough and careful investigation,» said Sheriff Kevin Rambosk in a statement. He added that the investigation included witness interviews, forensic examinations, and evidence collection.
According to investigators, on that day Gregory had been drinking for several hours, then went with his son to a friend«s to watch UFC fights. There he continued drinking and also used marijuana.
During the evening, according to investigators, Gregory repeatedly took the pistol from his waistband in front of the child and pulled the trigger without a round in the chamber. First the weapon was unloaded — the magazine and cartridge were removed.
However, according to the investigation, later the magazine was reinserted, a round was in the chamber, and Gregory fired one shot, fatally wounding the child.
«This case shows what a devastating tragedy can result from the combination of firearms, alcohol and drugs,» Sheriff Rambosk said.
The charge of intentional murder of a minor carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
Dog«s attorney Joseph Lesnyak told media: «This remains a terrible family tragedy. We believe Greg loved his son with all his heart, and this was a tragic accident — one that has forever changed many lives, especially Anthony»s and Greg«s own.»
