The investigation found that Zecca was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he accidentally shot the boy in July 2025.

According to the investigation, that evening Gregory spent several hours drinking and watching a UFC fight on TV with his son at a friend«s house. There, he is said to have used marijuana and alcohol. In the presence of the child, he repeatedly picked up a pistol, practicing drawing it from his belt and pulling the trigger while it was unloaded. Initially, the weapon was unloaded: the magazine was removed and the round was ejected from the chamber.
However, the magazine was then reinserted, a round was chambered, and Gregory fired, fatally wounding his son.
Dog and his wife Francie Frane described the death as an incomprehensible tragic accident.

Sheriff Kevin Rambosk stated that this case demonstrates the tragedy that can result from combining firearms, alcohol, and drugs. He expressed condolences to all affected by this loss.
Gregory — the son of Dog«s wife Francie Frane — was not immediately detained, although the investigation began promptly.
Last year, Dog and Frane released a statement calling the incident «an incomprehensible tragic accident» and asking for prayers for the family.
A few days after the incident, Gregory was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold and given strong sedatives due to fears that the grief-stricken father might commit suicide. A family spokesperson explained at the time that this was due to deep sorrow, not a sense of guilt for the crime.
It is known that Gregory taught his son how to shoot a rifle back in 2021, when the boy was nine, at the Franktown Firearms Shooting Center in Colorado. On his social media account at the time, he boasted about the time spent at the shooting range.
Previously, Anthony had told a touching story about feeling the presence of the Holy Spirit while visiting his «grandmother» in the hospital after a leg injury in 2023. The boy described inexplicable gusts of cold wind on a warm day, which he and his family interpreted as a spiritual sign.
