Dismantling of main New Year tree begins on Palace Square
The dismantling of St. Petersburg«s main New Year tree began on Palace Square on January 23. The Telegram channel »(Ot)Lichny Peterburg« published a video of the process.
Vice Governor Boris Piotrovsky said the dismantling will begin with careful removal of decorations and garlands, which may take up to two days.
«The branches and needles will be turned into sawdust, and the trunk will be used to make decorative clocks and prizes for the winners of the Children»s Drawing and Christmas Tree Toy Competition,« Piotrovsky emphasized.
At the request of residents, the holiday tree was kept on the square for a week longer than usual.
Earlier, the tree on Anchor Square in Kronstadt won the all-Russian competition «Yolki Rossii — 2026» (Russia«s Christmas Trees — 2026) in the category »Russia«s Christmas Tree in a Large City».
