The owners of Yekaterinburg«s long-unfinished Prisma building failed to secure a court delay for its demolition. Despite this, a quick start to demolition work is not expected.

Over time, the structural integrity of the abandoned Prisma construction site has been worsening.

«We are currently waiting for the reasoned decision,» explained Rustam Galyamov, deputy head of Yekaterinburg. «According to our information, the defendant will challenge this court decision. Therefore, in any case, until there is some decision on delaying the demolition, we cannot take any action.»

The decision on the necessity of demolition was made back in 2022. At that time, the Arbitration Court ordered three companies — LLC «Trade and Exhibition Center European», LLC «StroyInvest2007», and LLC «USKN» — to demolish part of the building from the 8th to the 36th floor. The remaining floors must be reconstructed in accordance with urban planning standards or also demolished.

City authorities had previously stated that they would not take the initiative for demolition while legal proceedings are ongoing. Nevertheless, the mayor«s office has already prepared possible scenarios in case the owners refuse to carry out the work. The Yekaterinburg administration consulted with specialists from the Ural Federal University to assess demolition methods.

«Technical solutions for this exist, but everything is complicated by cramped conditions. Moreover, the lower floors of the building are in use,» noted Rustam Galyamov.

Recently, the unfinished construction has been attracting the attention of teenagers who break into the site and spread false messages on social media about fires and allegedly begun demolition.
