Danilikha River in Perm Turns Bright Green

Residents of the Dzerzhinsky District noticed that the Danilikha River along the eco-trail has turned bright green. Locals fear that chemicals might harm a flock of ducks living on the bank. The company T Plus responded to why the water turned green and whether it would harm the birds.
Danilikha turned bright green this weekend. A large flock of ducks lives by the banks, and local residents fear that the chemically colored water could harm the birds.
T Plus told 59.RU that since January 21, the company has been conducting diagnostics of the heating networks in Perm. Therefore, a safe marker called «Uranin-A» was added to the system, which helps detect coolant leaks and illegal connections. This fluorescent dye is bright green, making even the smallest leaks easily noticeable.
«Such tests are a standard and effective practice used by energy companies to improve the reliability and transparency of heating network operations,» the company noted.
The diagnostics will last until the end of February and cover several districts of Perm at once.
The company says that during the work, some of the uranin did get into Danilikha and turned its water green.
«This could be the result of an illegal tap into the heating network, when unscrupulous individuals use the coolant for domestic purposes but don»t pay for it,« T Plus told 59.RU. »Now, T Plus specialists have intensified monitoring in this area: all possible connection and discharge points will be checked to identify the source of the leak and prevent similar cases in the future.«
T Plus also reported that the water color will return to normal within a few days due to natural dilution and washout.
«Uranin-A is a non-toxic substance, registered as a food coloring and widely used in hydrological studies worldwide,» the company noted. «It is safe for people, animals, and waterfowl even with direct contact.»
The company explained that, for example, in the USA, uranin is regularly used to dye rivers green on St. Patrick«s Day. This does not harm the ecology.
«Thus, the coloring of Danilikha does not pose a threat to the environment or residents» health,« T Plus summarized.
Previously, a Perm resident complained about poisonously green water flowing from the tap in her apartment.
