The Third Appellate Court in Sochi has set a date for considering the appeal complaints in the case of Alexander Pak. The accused is involved in the case concerning the death of Yekaterina Buravleva, a mother of several children. The information was published on the court«s official website.

The traffic accident in which Buravleva died occurred on October 22, 2024, on Bolshaya Street in Volgograd. The incident happened near the private boarding school «Sozvezdiye» (Constellation).

The Ministry of Internal Affairs provided the official version: «According to preliminary information, at 15:05, the driver of a BMW near house No. 38 on Bolshaya Street hit a pedestrian and then fled the scene of the accident,» the MVD reported. «Subsequently, the offender was detained. As a result of the accident, the pedestrian was taken to a medical facility.»

According to relatives, the BMW driver cut off the woman«s car, after which she got out to make a remark. In response, he ran over her, and this happened in front of the children.

The victim was first taken to City Hospital No. 25, then transferred to the Sklifosovsky Research Institute in Moscow. However, it was not possible to save her. Initially, a criminal case was initiated under the article for violating traffic rules and leaving the scene of an accident, but later it was reclassified as murder related to the performance of public duty.

The Volgograd Regional Court found Pak guilty and sentenced him to 11 years in a strict-regime colony. Additional punishments were also imposed: one year of restricted freedom, a three-year driving ban, and a fine of 5 million rubles (approximately $50,000 at current rates).

The verdict was appealed. Pak«s lawyers filed four complaints, and the prosecutor filed an appeal. The documents were transferred to the higher court on January 14, and the chancellery of the Third Appellate Court appointed Judge Dmitry Ponomarenko.

The first hearing is scheduled for February 19 at 10:00.
